Gomishan which is called Gomish Tape in local language meaning ‘silk hill’, is one of the oldest cities in the northeast of Iran with 100% Turkmen population, and it is estimated to be erected around 1941. It used to be part of the Silk Road, and not long ago it was frequented by the trade sailing ships connecting Iranian ports with the former Soviet Union port cities. The ruin of customhouse is still noticeable in the outskirts of the town.
