OLD BOMA
The Old Boma of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania is one of the city's oldest buildings.
It is located at the crossing of Morogoro Road and Sokoine Drive, facing the
harbor and adjacent to the City Hall. Currently is serves as architectural museum
for the city preserving the history since the colonial period.
ASKARI MONUMENT
The askari monument is a bronze statue unveiled in 1927 as memorial to the
askaro soldiers who fought in the British carrier corps during the World War I. It
is the most famous monument and must see, it can be used a reference for
toursist around the city. The monument was designed by James Stevenson.
DAR WATERFRONT
The Dar es salaam Water Front is an iconic place which has a mixture of business
and tradition. It harbours the Kivukoni Fish Market, St. Joseph Cathedral, Azania
Front Lutheran Church, The State House (closed to public), the Port, the new
Rapid Bus Transport Station, and the rail way station and Kigamboni ferry.
NATIONAL MUSEUM
Originally opened in 1940 as a memorial to King George V, the National Museum &
House of Culture takes you on a journey through Tanzania's colorful past. The museum
displays important fossils of some of the earliest human ancestors unearthed during the
Leakey digs at Olduvai Gorge. You can also learn about Tanzania's tribal heritage and
the impact of the slave trade and colonial periods.
