About Puno
Puno nowadays represents a quite big city of Peru with the population of about 118 thousands of people, which is situated in the South-East of the country, straight on the bank of the famous Lake Titicaca, which, by the way, is considered one of the highest lakes in the whole world, formed on the height of about 3860 meters above the sea level. Besides that, the city is considered the main administrative center of Puno Region and important agricultural center of the country with the status of special economical area.
The city was established for the very first time back in 1668 and since then it has developed and changed quite a lot. The city has got its fame among the foreign travelers, coming to Peru, due to its incredibly picturesque geographical location, straight among the huge breath-taking moutain chains on the bank of the famous local lake and its beautiful nature surroundings. Besides that, the city of Puno is also even considered the cultural capital of Peru, due to its quite rich and varied Indian cultural heritage. The local songs, music and dancing are well-known literally among the whole Southern America.
