About Skopje
The Macedonian capital, the city of Skopje, may be easily seen from afar, as the giant cross, situated on the top of the mount is telling you that you are starting to approach the city. This is the Millenium Cross, which was placed there not so long time ago a symbol of christianity of the country. The city in general has a very rich history and if each of the significant events of the city was celebrated by creating one monument, the city would compltely consist of thousands and thousands of such kind of monuments.
Skopje nowadays own a very loarge number of the most varied ancient historical, cultural and architectural sightseeings and also the ones that appeared in the city quite not so long time ago. One of the main significant sightseeings of the city is represented by the building of the former railway station, which nowadays represents a museum and monument in memory of the terrible earthquake, which happened in july of 1969. Since that day, the building s watch is always showing the time of 5.17 PM.
Kale Fortress is considered another popular local sightseeing, which is situated on the territory of the Old City and which provides all the travelers with a quite pituresque view on the whole capital and its nearest surroundings. The Old City or the Old Bazaar in general is situated on the place of the ancient market of XII-th century and attracts hundreds and hundreds of foreigners from all over the world with its narrow cobbled streets, unusual stores and that special atmosphere of the East that may be easily felt as soon as you step off the ancient Stonre Bridge.
