The Pisa food tour is a 4 hours and a half long walking tour.
This walking tour will introduce you to the real city of Pisa – right up to and beyond the iconic Leaning Tower.
This is a unique experience to enjoy this unpretentious university city where you will have the opportunity to eat and drink with the locals away from the tourist traps and understand the traditions and culture behind the food. In addition to eating and drinking your way through the streets of Pisa, you will see the City from a different angle – discover hidden lanes, photograph the city from unusual places, see the Leaning Tower and other famous monuments. You will learn about the history of the city and also about everyday life of the people living in Pisa.
The tour will include 7 authentic food stops with 15 tastings where you will get the chance to meet the people who provide the gastronomic services to the city’s residents and workers. There will be plenty of food to try during the tour - the advice is to have a very light breakfast before arriving at the meeting point for the beginning of the tour. You will start the tour with a typical Italian breakfast (cappuccino and cornetto) and continue tasting some of the local traditional pastries and cakes in a local bakery and pastry shop, including Vin Santo with almond biscuits. Then it is 'aperitivo' and after that you'll try the traditional 'Cecina' and a slice of the typical pisan pizza with a nice glass of local wine. The tour will continue visiting a genuine place where the locals go for their lunch break and try samples of the day dishes with a glass of wine. A taste of the local cold cuts and cheeses with a glass of wine can not be missing on this tour, of course. At the end, gelato! While trying the local food, your guide will give you a full narration about the city, its every day life and its history. During the tour there will be plenty of photo opportunities also from unusual places and the possibility of entering public and private buildings. As the tour ends up at the Leaning Tower, you will have the opportunity of visiting extensively the area or climb the Tower on your own in the afternoon, after your guide has given you a brief general introduction about the history of the monumental complex of the Cathedral of Pisa.
