We'll begin at the famous Duomo, the cathedral of Florence, where Brunelleschi's landmark dome dominates the skyline – an amazing sight to behold. Discover some of the secrets behind the construction of this architectural marvel.
We will then continue our walk to Palazzo Medici which was once the residence of the princely rulers of Florence. Just behind the palace we will find the church of San Lorenzo. Hear the story about the quarrelsome Michelangelo and the Medici pope and learn why the marble façade of the church was never made.
The tour then continues with a short walk down to Piazza della Repubblica which was once the site of the city's ancient Roman forum.
As we stroll through Medieval and Renaissance landmarks, we will make our way over to the famous Ponte Vecchio, the city’s oldest bridge over the Arno River, and learn why it was the only bridge sparred from destruction during Nazi occupation.
Our last stop will be Piazza della Signoria. The Palazzo Vecchio, the massive fortress-palace, dominates the square. Learn who was jailed here and burnt alive. Hear about the incidents that fueled the rivalry between the two Renaissance geniuses Michelangelo and Leonardo.
