About Quito
Quito nowadays represents an absolutely picturesque city, which at the same time is considered the capital of Ecuador and is situated on the height of about 2850 meters above the sea level. The city is considered the second highest situated capital in the world, which is surrounded by numerous volcanoes from all of the sides.
The Northern part of the city is represented by modern residential districts, multiple business centers and high level hotels. Historical center of Quito deserves the additional attention of the foreign visitors, due to the numerous architectural monuments and ancient colonial buildings that are carefully protected nowadays by the local population and government in general. At the same time, the Southern part of the city is represented by the old residential districts and it s highly recommended to avoid walking there alone or without a local attendant.
There are about 50 different ancient churches and few of the most popular ones are situated not far from the central square of the city, including Basilica del Voto Nacional, San Francisco, Santo Domingo Catedral and few others. Besides that, the old houses of Quito may be considered as a separate local sightseeing, due to their unusual architectural details, tiny yards and cozy terraces. That s the exact place, where narrow cobbled streets, combined with these tiny houses and the noises of the local everyday life help you feel all that special atmosphere of freedom and Ecuadorian lifestyle in general.
