Heading northwest of Limassol towards the Troodos mountains. Stop half way in the charming, picturesque wine village of Omodos. This an ideal place to relax and/ or have a drink in one of the traditional' kafenion' (local coffee shop) , then visit the old wine cellar, taste and buy local wine including the delicious renowned 'commandaria'. Next, take a look at the Holy Cross ancient monastery and church. Then , drive accross vine- clad hills, to the mediaval bridge of Tzelefos for a few minutes break. Along a good condition earthen road, with idyllic river and forest scenery, we reach the most prominent active monastery of Cyprus, Kykkos monastery. This place houses a magnificent collection of byzantine relics, icons and wall paintings. Next we may have a snack or lunch in a restaurant nearby, and/ or take the way to the highest peak of Cyprus, mount Olympus. We may also stop and admire one of the local spectacular waterfalls. If time and day light allow, we may visit one of the Unesco listed chapels ,decorated with ancient frescoes( there are ten of them in the area) . Return home by anoter road, allowing us to see and / or visit another mountain village(like Platres or Lania)
