For a pleasant and relaxing tour in the metropolis of Guangzhou, the Huangpu Ancient Port Village and the Ancient Xiaozhou Village are strongly recommended. The two idyllic villages on the outskirt of Guangzhou are considered hidden gems for foreign travelers.
(1) 09:00AM: Pick up at hotel to visit Huangpu Ancient Port Village. Since the ancient times, Guangzhou has been one of the most important foreign trade ports in China, with Huangpu Ancient Port being the major one in Guangzhou in trading with foreign countries since Song Dynasty (960~1279). It is a witness of the prosperity and flourish of Guangzhou's Marine Silk Road.
Behind the Huangpu Ancient Port is Huangpu Village, most of the buildings were built in Qing Dynasty and are now being well kept in the original shapes. With rich historical and cultural relics and remains such as the ancient port, lanes and temples, old residences of Lingnan architecture, beautiful countryside scenery and local snacks, Huangpu Ancient Port Village is ready to tell you the legends of Guangzhou.
(2) 13:00PM: Head for Ancient Xiaozhou Village. A visit to this ancient village will also be an excellent get away from the hustle and bustle of Guangzhou and a good chance to experience Guangzhou locals’ real lifestyle. The original alleys with artistic shops along their both sides, the ancient wells, bridges and banyan trees of hundreds of years and the traditional dwelling houses as well as the rare food reflect a vivid image of Lingnan water village in China. Upon walking into Xiaozhou Village, you will have a wonderful feeling like going into a folk customs museum of abundant artistic atmosphere and authentic local lifestyle.
