Qatar Airways has launched a huge promotion in celebration of the 10th anniversary of its frequent flyer programme, Privilege Club.

The airline’s award-winning loyalty scheme, launched in 2000 when the Doha-based carrier was just three years old, has grown to become one of the aviation industry’s most innovative, attractive and highly rewarding programmes.

To mark the anniversary, Privilege Club is offering a number of special benefits for its loyal members, including bonus Qmiles and numerous redemption discounts.

Members can earn 10,000 bonus Qmiles in addition to the normal Qmiles, when flying 10 sectors within 10 weeks from May 1 until July 10.

Between May 1 and 31, Privilege Club members can also earn double Qpoints on Qatar Airways’ flights enabling them to achieve a higher status much quicker within the programme.

As part of the celebrations honouring members’ loyalty, Privilege Club card holders can enjoy the benefits of upgrading to Business Class for just half – 50 per cent less – Qmiles than normal by booking selected Economy Class tickets during the month of May.

Those members looking to fly on May 2 – Privilege Club’s 10th birthday – can redeem Economy Class award tickets for just 10% of the normal Qmiles required.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said that customer loyalty was one of the key drivers of the airline’s growth strategy.

Qatar Airways, which has developed its global business significantly over the past 10 years, currently operates to 88 destinations with a modern fleet of 82 aircraft around the world with another four new routes scheduled for launch by the end of June.

Privilege Club has a constantly growing list of partners and an ever-expanding array of benefits with leading travel and hospitality service providers, including over 10 international hotel chains and car rental brands, and tying up with local banks to offer co-branded credit cards.

Over the past five years, Privilege Club has made a significant impact on the international scene, winning numerous accolades, including eight ‘Freddies’ – the loyalty industry’s ‘Oscars’ – in 2007 alone. Freddie awards have included Best Bonus Promotion (Europe, Middle East and Africa), Best Website (Asia Pacific) and Best Programme of the Year for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Since February, Qatar Airways continued its aggressive expansion programme by launching scheduled flights to Bengaluru (Bangalore), Copenhagen and Ankara. Flights to Tokyo begin tomorrow (April 26), followed in June by services to Sao Paulo in Brazil and Buenos Aires in Argentina.

 Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 120 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 24 Airbus A320 Family of aircraft, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline has aircraft orders for more than 200 jets worth over US$40 billion and is one of the customers of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five on order and scheduled for delivery from 2012, by which time the New Doha International Airport would have opened.
