Put a red cross on your dead phone in Spain

Iberia launches "Donate your cell phone" campaign

Have you changed your cell phone recently? Don't throw it away! Have you kept an old one? If you donate it, you will be helping the environment and contributing to a humanitarian project.

Iberia, in collaboration with Cruz Roja Española – Spain's Red Cross organisation – and the Entreculturas Foundation, has launched a campaign based on the donation of old cell phones that are no longer used because they don't work or are out of fashion.

How does it work? Just pick up one of the bags that Iberia is making available to its customers at its ticket counters and VIP lounges in Spanish airports, or at the ticket office on Velazquez, 130, in Madrid. You may also request them from cabin crews on domestic flights. Put the old cell phone in the bag, and drop it in any letter box. No postage is required.

Iberia is also distributing bags to interested employees.
The cell phones that still work will be resold, and the proceeds will go to humanitarian, social, and educational programmes carried out by the Red Cross or the Entreculturas Foundation.

The cell phones that no longer work will be recycled, to protect the environment.
