Affected Passengers Will Be Paid For Accommodation And Food

Air Greenland gives notice about a legal strike of its cabin attendants

For several months, Air Greenland has been negotiating with the Air Greenland Cabin Union (ACU) regarding the renewal of the cabin attendants’ agreement. So far, the union and the company have not been able to agree on the specific terms and, on behalf of the ACU, the Danish Federation of Salaried Employees has given notice of a legal strike, starting on June 15, 2009. On the other hand, Air Greenland has given notice of a lockout of the same group of employees as of June 19, 2009.

The cabin crew comprises approx. 75 cabin attendants (stewardesses and stewards) in the company. As this staff is in charge of many security functions aboard our airplanes, we will not be able to carry through with many of our flights during a possible conflict. The flights with most of our small helicopters will not be affected.

Air Greenland and the ACU are still in negotiations and, obviously, at Air Greenland we hope to agree on the terms, thus avoiding a strike and a lockout.

At Air Greenland, we truly regret the inconvenience and worries that this notice of conflict may cause our passengers. If a strike should occur, Air Greenland will rebook or reimburse the tickets of the affected passengers. In addition, Air Greenland will pay for accommodation and food if this should become necessary for stranded passengers.

If we are not able to agree with the ACU on the terms and a strike should become imminent, we will send you more detailed information next week.
