One of the main local travel destinations is the city of Vilnius, which at the same time is considered the capital of the country and one of the most attractive Lithuanian cities. The city center charms foreigners with its special atmosphere of the vivid buildings, ancient castle walls, gorgeous temples, narrow streets and multiple cozy cafes. The picturesque cathedrals, gothic constructions, ancient ruins and the stunning mountain view will impress even the most experienced travelers.
Another popular Lithuanian city is the city of Trakai, a former ancient capital of Lithuania. It represent s rather small, but so much picturesque city, located just in about 28 kilometers from Vilnius. Its crystal clear lake and peaceful nature of the numerous islands create the special atmosphere of the city of Trakai and make it so populr among th foreign visitors. The main sightseeing of the city is the Trakai Island Castle, which is considered the only one island castle in the whole Eastern Europe.
The city of Kaunas is much bigger than Trakai and yields only to the capital of the country. The city was established in XIII-th century and nowadays represents a perfect excursion center, due to the ancient gothic monuments, architecture of the Renaissance, gorgeous churches and old monasteries, nice beaches and a very large zoo.
