Air Travel Tips & Tricks to Fly Like a Pro

These air travel tips and tricks are going to change the way you fly!

Air travel is always exciting, but every trip has some drawbacks. At TravelPapa we know how to make your flight more comfortable and less stressful. Here are our top Air Travel Tips & Tricks to Fly Like a Pro.

Pack Smart

Pack Smart

  • Buy a suitcase in an unusual color or pattern. It will help your baggage to stand out from the multitude of boring black and grey suitcases which makes it easier to spot your bag on the baggage claim.
  • Put your electronic devices in one place. TSA says, that if your electronics are randomly tossed in your bag, security workers spend more time looking on X-ray determining what they really are. And sometimes they are obliged to check it manually. Save your time and organize your devices in one layer so they could be easily taken out.
  • Roll your stuff. If you want to save more space and to avoid wrinkles, roll your clothes instead of folding. Then, pack them as tight as possible in your bag.

At The Airport

At The Airport

  • Bring an empty water bottle. It is very important to stay hydrated on your trips, but bottled water in airports can be very overpriced. Just take an empty bottle through security, then fill it later.
  • Check-in online. Nowadays you can save a lot of time by checking-in online before arriving to the airport.
  • Or check-in next to the business class line. Frequent travelers have noticed, that sometimes agents at the first class counter help travelers who are staying in the next lane.
  • Bring a power splitter. In some airports power outlets can be scarce. If you want to keep your gadgets charged, power splitter is a good solution. Especially if you are travelling with your friends or family. It won’t take a lot of space, but it can save you when your battery is low.
  • Choose the left line at the security.  Survey says that most humans are biased toward their dominant hand. Since the most people are right-handed they subconsciously prefer the right line.

Air Travel Tips - Stay Healthy

Stay Healthy

  • Drink lots of water. As a human being you need water to stay healthy. But in stress situations our body requires a lot more liquid than ever. That is why scientists recommend to drink at least eight cups of water in the days before your trip. And don’t forget to bring an empty water bottle we mentioned above.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine. It’s really hard to give up on these things, especially if you are a nervous flyer. But before consuming alcohol, just think about consequences. Not only it dehydrates you, but you can get in lots of troubles if you are going to drink too much.
  • Move your body. As you are waiting for your flight, spend some time strolling around or do some exercises and stretching. While on the plane move around as much as possible. No one says that you need to do P90X or yoga on board. A small walk or a little stretch for your legs are enough to keep your blood flowing.
  • Avoid heavy meals. Stay away from fat and salty foods before and during your flight. They not only are hard to digest and can cause sleep problems but also can be the reason of your dehydration.

Jet Lag

Beat Jet Lag

  • Prepare yourself. A few days before you travel to the different time zone, change your sleep routine. If you are going to the West, start going to sleep a little bit later than usually. If you are flying to the East, start going to bed earlier.
  • Keep calm. Any stress can make your jet lag worse.
  • Avoid sleeping pills. To beat the jet lag you got to adjust to your new sleeping patterns naturally. Sleeping medication won’t help you do this.
  • Keep yourself hydrated. As we said earlier, we need water to stay healthy on trips. Dehydration can make your jet lag symptoms worse.
  • Spend some time outdoors as you arrive. Exposure to the sunlight helps you to adjust to the new time zone a lot quicker. Just leave your stuff at the hotel and take a little walk.
