STR Reports Canada Performance for Week Ending 8 May 2010
In year-over-year measurements, the industryÂ’s occupancy increased 4.4 percent to 61.9 percent. Average daily rate ended the week virtually flat with a 0.7- percent increase to CAD$127.49. Revenue per available room for the week was up 5.0 percent to CAD$78.88.
The Canadian hotel industry reported increases in all three key performance measurements during the week of 2-8 May 2010, according to data from STR.
In year-over-year measurements, the industry's occupancy increased 4.4 percent to 61.9 percent. Average daily rate ended the week virtually flat with a 0.7- percent increase to CAD$127.49. Revenue per available room for the week was up 5.0 percent to CAD$78.88.
Among the provinces, Quebec reported the largest occupancy increase, rising 17.9 percent to 63.8 percent, followed by New Brunswick with a 10.4-percent increase to 61.6 percent. Two provinces posted occupancy decreases: Alberta (-8.6 percent to 54.1 percent) and Prince Edward Island (-2.8 percent to 38.8 percent).
Manitoba experienced the only double-digit ADR increase, rising 10.8 percent to CAD$117.52. Nova Scotia posted the largest ADR decrease, falling 5.0 percent to CAD$118.98, followed by Alberta with a 4.9-percent decrease to CAD$132.86.
Four provinces reported double-digit RevPAR increases: Manitoba (+19.4 percent to CAD$84.88); Quebec (+18.8 percent to CAD$83.90); Saskatchewan (+11.0 percent to CAD$81.49); and New Brunswick (+10.1 percent to CAD$70.44). Alberta posted the largest RevPAR decrease, falling 13.0 percent to CAD$71.90, followed by Nova Scotia (-3.9 percent to CAD$69.52) and Prince Edward Island (-3.5 percent to CAD$34.56).
