Cheapflights UK Says Sterling Sends Searches Surging

The Website Has Seen a Six Per Cent Rise in Eurozone Searches for the Month of May 2010 Compared With the Same Period in 2009

Cheapflights.co.uk, the UK's leading price comparison site for travel, has seen a moderate but extremely telling six per cent increase in searches to the Eurozone, showing a significant bounce back from last year's down summer travel season.

"The recession of the past year had, last summer, seen travellers favouring non Eurozone, mid-haul destinations like Turkey where they were guaranteed cheaper ground costs as a result of conversion rates," says Nadine Hallak, Travel Expert for Cheapflights UK.

"However this year, with the Pound regaining some strength against the Euro, the Eurozone is back in favour, particularly for short breaks," adds Hallak.

The summer sees a return to old favourites with destinations such as Paris, Rome and Berlin proving particularly popular. With flights from London to Paris going from just £80 return, Berlin from £101 return, and Rome from £109 return, it's easy to see why a quick getaway to any of these three would appeal.

Summer in the city of lights offers more than shopping at the Champs and romantic strolls down the Seine. July and August play host to the Quartier d'Ete (Summer Arts Festival), which takes place in different parts of the city with performances ranging from theatre, film, and dance, to different variations of music including opera and jazz. The city also offers the added advantage of being emptied out by its residents, leaving more space for visitors to hop on a cheap flight and enjoy its sidewalk cafes.

The buzzing city of Berlin presents a summer full of festivity. Famous for its winter markets, particularly those catering to the holiday season, summer is no different with a wealth of activity to suit all manner of tastes. Some of the most popular events include Lange Nacht de Museen for museum lovers, the Global City Festival, Musikfest Berlin, and the Berliner Beer Festival. Many of the events take place during August, which is a great time to visit and enjoy less crowding.

Summertime in Rome hardly needs an introduction. Despite the heat of the season, the city attracts a wealth of visitors to its numerous sites. Events tend to change annually, but the Rome Opera House hosts regular favourites throughout July and August consisting of open air productions in the form of opera and ballet.
