Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino¹s Got SOLE!

Resort-wide Cork Recycling Program Launches June 1

Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino, in partnership with ReCORK, has launched a new initiative to recycle thousands of its natural used wine corks. Beginning June 1, corks will be collected throughout the resort in an effort to help ReCORK in their recycling program. SOLE, a leading manufacturer of footwear products, blends the recycled corks into unique formulations used in the production of eco-friendly "flip" sandals and packaging. With the flips available for purchase at Tahoe Provisions, Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe will be the first venue to function as both a ReCORK collection site for natural corks and a retailer of the SOLE flips.

Sponsored by Amorim of Portugal, the world's largest producer of natural cork closures, and SOLE, the goal of ReCORK is to find reuse applications for as many corks as possible and in the process, help communicate the value cork forests play as a sustainable natural resource that must be protected. Beginning in June, ReCORK collection boxes will be stationed at Lone Eagle Grille and other resort venues, with the goal of collecting 30 pounds or more of corks. This new initiative is part of Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino's ongoing green efforts and commitment to eco-friendly practices.

"We are excited to be a part of this innovative "green" initiative," commented David Lockard, Director of Food & Beverage with Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe. "The simple act of recycling used corks, like many environmental efforts, is a small one but it can have incredible results. Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe is constantly striving towards increasingly sustainable practices, and partnering with ReCORK in collection, education, and sale of recycled cork products is an additional achievement towards that goal."

ReCORK has already collected millions of used corks, and in conjunction with SOLE, have found new and exciting purposes for them. Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino's efforts will redirect thousands of natural wine corks that end up in the garbage each year to innovative applications.
