Despite of the chilly winds and extreme hard winter, around 30,000 people visit Sweden during the month of February for attending the traditional Sami Festival. In the history of the world, it is considered as one of the oldest nomadic cultures and is successfully followed till date.

People wear belts, boots and gloves made from reindeer skin and fur during the festival. Jokkmokk Market, the principal native Sámi festival in the world, celebrates the customs and culture of the Sámi group, who are inhabitant to the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia. Archaeological art-facts from the locale communally recognized as the Sápmi region, date back 10,000 years, and for years the Sámi lifestyle has centered on reindeer husbandry, fishing and hunting.

Though the festival starts on the first Thursday of February month, the visitors are seen planning to visit the city prior a week before the festival in order to visit the historic market for buying handmade balms, medicinal salves, dried mushrooms, jams, fur garments and carvings for the discount rate.

Sami Festival Activities: There is congregation of activities to get pleasure from while the celebration is in complete swing.
