As of January 29, 2010, SWISS’ New York JFK – Geneva route will be operated by the new Airbus A330-300 with its innovative cabin interiors. The aircraft’s First and Business Classes, featuring exclusive adjustable air cushion technology and lie-flat beds, promise an exquisite travel experience; and the redesigned Economy Class cabin boasts its own top-quality seats and a state-of-the-art and easy-to-use inflight entertainment system.
On the environmental front, the A330-300 consumes around 13% less fuel per passenger than the A330-200 it replaces, largely through its more advanced and fuel-efficient engines but also because of a number of innovations on board. The new air cushions, which make the Business Class seat some four kilos lighter saves over 650 tons of kerosene a year fleetwide, and this in turn will reduce annual CO
2 emissions by more than 2,000 tons. Lighter materials have also been used for the inflight trolleys, reducing CO
2 emissions by an additional 1,200 tons.
