Lebanon is the independent country in Western Asia, which is bordered by Syria in the north and east and which shares its border with Israel in the south.
The official language in Lebanon is Arabic, so the biggest part of its population speaks Lebanese Arabic, which is also used in the broadcast media, newspapers, magazines and etc. Besides that, about 70% of Lebanon’s secondary schools use the French language and approximately 30% use English as a second language.
The tourism industry of Lebanon forms approximately 10% of GDP of the country. The majority of foreign travelers come here usually from Japan, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. The best time for visiting this country is the period between November and March. It’s very important to take into account such weather specificities as the harsh temperature drops, year-round absence of the rain in some regions, extremely hot winds, blowing from the Sahara desert in spring and so on. The most popular tourist attractions here are historical excursions and safari through the Sahara Desert. But don’t forget the following tips: spring is the period of hot storms in the desert; if you’re going on safari, it’s better cover your phone and video camera with a special case; don’t make a stop on the top of the dune – as the sand there is usually rather unsteady there’s always a chance to get overturned; once you’ve found an oasis, you may not fear to get sunk – the water there is very saline; in winter period snakes and scorpions are sleeping, but nevertheless it’s better to move stones or branches very carefully and to close your tents tightly at the nighttime. Beaches here are not developed enough, as their condition may not be called the best one, so it’s not the destination for those who’d like to lay on the sun or especially go diving.
